The children at St Ethelbert's school experienced some aspects of Gambian life today. Our visitor, Karen, who is the founder of Farato school in the Gambia, came to spend time with each class and share her knowledge and experience! The day began with a whole school assembly where Karen talked about life in the Gambia, the houses, transport, food and religion. During the day they had lots of opportunities to ask questions. They also had lots of fun doing activities such as dancing, singing, art, and even learning the Gambian National Anthem. At play time, lots of children were practicing to see if they could carry things on their heads!
Overall, it was an exciting day enjoyed by all children and staff.
Thank you very much Karen for coming to our school.
Over the past few weeks the Year 5 and Year 6 Gardening Club children have been rolling their sleeves up and working really hard. The team have prepared the growing boxes by weeding and making the areas tidy. They have planted onions, carrots and tomato plants, some of which have kindly been donated by a Year 3 parent. There are also sunflowers growing in pots too. There are lots of future plans and ideas to look forward to, including planting trees donated from the woodland trust.
We are looking forward to watching the plants and vegetables grow.
